Musicality, The University of Nottingham's Musical Theatre Society proudly presents
The Pajama Game
The workers of the
Sleep Tite factory are locked in a titanic struggle for pyjama survival. Everyone else is getting a raise, and they want one too – but the boss has other ideas. Ideas that may or may not involve diverting the money saved into his own pockets. The staff aren’t having any of this, and search for ways to get their due.
The Pajama Game follows the trials of two stars-cross'd lovers on opposing sides of this nightwear war: Sid, the new Superintendent of the factory, and Babe, Head of the Workers' Grievance Committee. Drawn together across a professional divide by the bridge of mutual attraction, they are torn between what is 'correct' and what is 'right'.
In the middle of this, the philandering Prez is breaking hearts wherever he goes, and Hines is driving his girlfriend further and further away with his petty jealousies and penchant for knife-throwing.
In other circumstances, this might provide the framework for a tragedy of sorts. Fortunately, this is musical theatre, so whatever problems there are simply melt away in a haze of 'impromptu' songs as we follow the rollercoaster of emotions to a happy ending.
